The SMD-01 reflective optical encoder is the best starting point for high resolution nanometer applications as its low noise and low distortion output enable interpolation using 12-16 bit A/D conversion and single digit resolution. A unique led receptor array provide wider tolerance to misalignment, YAW, external contamination and humidity SMD-01 makes it easier to manufacture precision encoders and achieve longer service life. Its small 5.4x4.3 mm footprint and 1.68 mm height allow ever smaller encoders .

Using a 20µ period the SMD-01 boasts native 5µ resolution; Seiko NPC SM3470 and SM3471 interpolators offer factors of 20x and 8x to support applications better than 5µ to 0.1µ
